Hi, I'm Erin.

Are you overwhelmed by organizing, assigning, and returning towers of textbooks?

Here's how you can make textbook tracking painless and paperless with Skyward.

Start by going to Administration, selecting the Textbook field, and clicking on Textbook Master.

Click Add to create a new textbook title record.

Choose and enter a book code first. Then fill in the fields for short and full titles, edition, ISBN, and cost.

The price reflects what students will owe if they lose the book.

You can create administrative codes for publisher and medium type.

Textbooks can be created either at the individual school entity level, or at the district level then moved when the books are sent to a specific school.

Check Classroom Book to keep the book in the building and prevent it from being circulated to students.

Fill in the total inventory you have for this title.

If you're distributing books students will get to keep, for example an agenda or vocabulary workbook, uncheck the Have to Return box.

Next, we'll create our individual book records.

Expand the book details, then click Create Books.

Enter the total number to create based on your inventory and the number to begin from.

Create administrative codes to track the condition of the books. Then click Create.

The system will create a record for each book.

From here, books can be assigned to entities, students, and staff, or linked to courses and classes.

Different entry options help you see who is in possession of each book and keep notes about textbooks' condition to determine when they need to be replaced.

Keep your textbook tally in tip-top shape with tracking tools from Skyward, and stay tuned for more Quick Hits, coming soon.
