Today we're shining the spotlight on one of your fellow Skyward school districts, Sartell-St. Stephan ISD 748 in Minnesota. A Skyward customer since 1992, this district excels at saving money by customizing Skyward solutions to fit their needs, rather than purchasing additional software. We’re excited to share their story in the hopes that you too will find ways to save money by getting creative with the Skyward software you already own!

Skylert ➡️ Prom Attendance

A shining example of ISD 748’s creative customization is the district’s use of Skylert. ISD 748 uses Skylert as their primary messaging service, not only for standard daily communication, but also for special events like prom!

The district realized they needed to be extra accountable when students were on campus during the dance, so they created a process using Skylert to inform parents when their students were and were not on school grounds.

Here's what the process looks like:
  1. If a student is going to prom, their guardians are notified that they will be receiving an automated phone call when their student leaves the dance.
  2. Students check into the building with their badges when they arrive at prom.
  3. Students check out with their badges as they leave.
  4. When a student checks out, Skylert is prompted to call their guardian to let them know the student left prom. Calls go out to parents every 30 minutes.
Keith Breitkreutz, the district’s director of technology, shared more about this innovative use of Skylert. “The goal wasn’t to take the fun away, but it was certainly important for us to let parents know that we’re responsible for their children on school grounds and when they leave. Parents love that they are notified of their students’ whereabouts, and we love that we were able to customize our in-place Skylert system to fit this unique need.”

What’s next for ISD 748? Breitkreutz said the district’s goal is to continue working to make their Skyward system a one-stop-shop. “Everything is conveniently in one place, and anything that isn’t already convenient can be made convenient by customizing modules,” he said.

We’re excited to see the ways ISD 748 customized Skyward to make it their own—and we’re happy to help your district do the same! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to discuss how Skyward can help your district accomplish your goals.
