STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Feb. 24, 2020) – Skyward founder Jim King has announced the appointment of a new chairman of the board, effective immediately. In an email to employees on February 20, 2020, Jim King shared that the company’s board of directors had unanimously approved the selection of his son Jerry to succeed him as Skyward’s next chairman of the board.

“It has been a privilege for me to serve as Skyward’s chairman of the board for the past 12 years,” said Jim King. “The time has come to pass the torch to the next generation and take some time to enjoy life. I’m confident that Jerry and the rest of the board and executive team will lead the company into the next phase of growth and success,” added King.

Jerry King began his Skyward career as a software developer in 1991. Prior to becoming chairman of the board, Jerry served as corporate officer within the company. Previous positions included executive vice president of administration where he oversaw financial, human resources and facilities—including the construction of the company’s new world headquarters—and chairman of the operations board.

“I am truly honored to lead Skyward through such an exciting time of growth,” said Jerry King. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of maintaining the family tradition by building upon the values and principles that are the cornerstone of the company,” he added.

Founded in 1980 by Jim and Jean King, Skyward has been serving the needs of K-12 school districts by developing industry-leading software for school districts in 21 states and 8 countries. Starting from the humble beginnings of the family’s Stevens Point garage, Skyward has become one of the world’s leading providers of administrative software, serving more than 2,000 customers representing more than 7.5 million students.

“My wife Jean and I will remain on the board of directors to serve as mentors and advisors to Jerry and the rest of the board, said Jim King. “We are committed to keeping Skyward in our family and we are excited for the continued success of the company for generations to come.”
