Editing a PDF Document in MS Word

Did you know you can use Microsoft Word to edit PDF documents? This feature comes in handy for basic editing if you don’t have a full version of Adobe Acrobat available. Keep in mind that if layout is critical, this may not be the best option for you.
To edit a PDF file in Microsoft Word, simply open Word, click on File, Open, and then choose the PDF file you’d like to edit. You may be prompted by a message explaining that the document will be converted and may not look like the original PDF. (Click OK if this message appears.)
After editing, you can choose to save the file as a Word document or a PDF. To save as a PDF, go to “Save As” and change the “Save As Type” to PDF.

Powerline Networking

Do you have places in your home where your Wi-Fi doesn’t seem to reach? Perhaps the garage, attic, or a corner bedroom? A powerline networking kit might be the tool you need to solve this problem. The kit provides a way to extend your home network without changing your existing electrical wiring. Powerline kits are also helpful in multi-story homes in which building materials, like brick or lath and plaster, block Wi-Fi signals.
A powerline kit contains two adapters, each with an Ethernet port and an electrical plug. One adapter plugs into an outlet near your router and connects to that router with an included Ethernet cable. You can plug in the other adapter where you need an Internet connection, and hook it up to your device with the other Ethernet cable.
Each two-adapter kit enables you to connect one device to the Internet. You can extend your powerline network by buying more adapters, either in kits or individually. To add rooms to your network, you just need adapters in those rooms – you can use the same router-side adapter for your entire network.

Malware of the Month

The Malware of the Month for January is Stegoloader, a stealthy information stealer.
Malware authors are constantly evolving their techniques in order to evade network and host-based detection mechanisms. Stegoloader represents an emerging trend in malware: the use of digital steganography (concealing a secret message inside a larger message so the presence or contents of the message can’t be found) to hide malicious code. This new malware threat is also referred to as Win32/Gatak.DR or TSPY_GATAK.GTK, and can evade detection by hiding in image files on an infected computer. Stegoloader is so advanced that it goes through a process to detect if the PC that it’s installed on is a normal system or one running security analysis software.
If your computer gets infected with Stegoloader or you suspect it may have a different infection, use Malwarebytes or another antivirus system to scan and remove the malicious material.
